Roland Garros, Paris, 27/05/2025
At night on Philippe Chatrier, the lights looked ready for a gala, and the French crowd hoped for a patriotic miracle. But no.
Jannik Sinner, world number one, walked in like a popstar and walked out like a champion… with that same expression of “Is it over already?”
His opponent this time was Arthur Rinderknech, a polite and proper Frenchman ranked 75th, who did his best to hold on but ended up applauding his executioner. Final score: 6-4, 6-3, 7-5. No drama, no delay, no croissant rain.
Sinner didn’t even break a sweat, and waved goodbye with that unique mix of Alpine composure and surgical precision that makes him lovable even when eliminating local heroes.
The crowd, confused, snapped selfies while their national hope vanished from the scoreboard.
Rinderknech heads home with dignity. Sinner goes to bed early. And Paris, as always, keeps dreaming of the next Gasquet.
