Because there’s no VAR in the ITF, but fierce looks and pointed fingers do the job

Turin, July 2025 – No high-tech tools? No problem. At the ITF W35 Nord Tennis tournament, justice is handed out finger-first — literally. One chalky mark, a raised eyebrow, and a racquet pointed like a compass of divine judgment. On this red clay stage, play is full of grit, talent… and theatrical body language.

Just stepping on court in this heat is an athletic feat. The players face not just their opponent, but also the relentless sun and a surface that punishes hesitation. At this point in the tournament, every point is worth as much as a weekend in Capri.

But beyond the sweat and stamina, it’s worth reflecting on the core: tennis today isn’t just a romantic passion — it’s a profession. A career. A future. Look at the evolution of ITF prize money to see how far it has come. And when money, rankings, and contracts are on the line, relying solely on instinct isn’t enough.

The ITF should seriously consider that four eyes see better than two. These aren’t friendly matches where a handshake settles a dispute. Each call can impact a career. And if there’s no tech, at least let there be more humanity… that is, more Hawk Eyes.

With elegance, of course. But also with firmness (and sunscreen).
