Parco della Pellerina – Turin
The Parco della Pellerina takes its name from an old Piedmontese farmhouse — the “Cassin-a dla Pellerina-a,” in Turin dialect.
But as is often the case in these parts, names carry stories… and Pellerina’s has a spicy one: it refers to places where insolvent debtors were judged and displayed publicly on the infamous “sedan stone.” Underwear? None — the moral punishment had to sting as much as the fall.
Day Three: Order is coming together
The tournament is finding its rhythm. Though I confess, I miss the old days when the gardener would write match results on a chalkboard.
Now you must leave the court, check the ITF website, or photograph the bulletin board at the entrance — hoping the sun doesn’t blind you while you squint at the print.
A tournament from Turin… but international!
This W35 feels like a neighborhood match with global credentials.
No line judges. No ballboys.
The outcome depends entirely on the eyesight of the umpire, perched atop his metal throne (courtesy of Mabo) at 70 blazing degrees.
The clay, however, shines thanks to Denise and Massimo — kind, tireless volunteers who give the tournament its human heart.
